President Yanukovych vows reforms in many areas

Ukraine by the end of this year will launch reforms that would relate to 21 areas, President Viktor Yanukovych has addressed on Friday the closing session of the 10th Ukraine-Poland Economic Forum and the 6th Conference of Heads of Regions of Ukraine and Poland.

According to Yanukovych, the changes that have been launched in Ukraine last year, are already doing their job. The president added that the issue of reforms is actually lying in the plane of national security and sovereignty of Ukraine, UKRINFORM reported citing the presidential press office.

The head of state noted that the year 2011 is a period of not only the continuation of reforms, but their considerable intensification.

Yanukovych said that, of course, a crushing blow to corruption and bureaucratic system has triggered the resistance of the system. “So we see today bureaucracy, corruption in Ukraine are hiding behind democratic slogans,” he said and added that it is a lie and an attempt to mislead the international community and the Ukrainian society.

“The Ukrainian people are wise – they will understand. Since a small group of people who have plundered the country for 20 years – this is a bunch, and the whole of society suffered from that, the state suffered, our image in the world. The interest of the Ukrainian people is that it is completed sometime… The country needs changes,” he said.

“We need to change approaches 180 degrees, and we will do it. The Ukrainian people give us a stimulus,” Yanukovych underscored.
