President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law to suspend the sale of a government stake in the authorized capital of CJSC Odessa Film Studio (Odessa, southern Ukraine), the presidential press service reported.
The ban on the privatization of one of the oldest film studios in Ukraine and Europe, introduced by parliament on January 14, should help restore the Ukrainian cinematography.
The Cabinet of Ministers was ordered to draw up within three months a bill on ensuring the conditions for the revival of the Ukrainian cinema, which should also point to two other Ukrainian studios – one in Yalta and another named after Dovzhenko in Kyiv.
The first film studio started working in Odesa at the dawn of the twentieth century. In 1912, Odesa watched the first local feature film – crime drama Odessa Catacombs.
