The European Union notes the increase in the number national and Schengen visas issued to Ukrainians in 2010, including the long-term and free ones, according to the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.
In 2010, Ukrainians, according to preliminary reports, were granted more than 1 million visas, over a third of them – for free.
Meanwhile, only 3% of Ukrainians, who applied for visas, did not receive them.
On November 22, Ukraine and the EU agreed on a plan of action under which Ukraine should implement for the introduction of visa-free short-term travels for its citizens. In November, after the 14th Ukraine – EU summit in Brussels, both sides expressed hope for completion of negotiations on an Association Agreement and the creation of a free trade area in 2011.
Ukraine is ready to implement the plan to introduce visa-free regime with EU countries in the first half of 2011, Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych said last December.
