IMF sees no preconditions for significant fluctuations in hryvnia exchange rate

Representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) do not see preconditions for significant fluctuations in the hryvnia exchange rate, National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Governor Serhiy Arbuzov has said.

“The IMF is satisfied with Ukraine’s fulfillment of all of the memorandum conditions, monetary policy and the NBU’s currency formation policy. The IMF representatives do not see prerequisites for significant fluctuations in the national currency exchange rate,” Arbuzov said at a meeting with President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.

The president and the NBU head discussed the issues of the functioning of the state banking system, its development, as well as the outcome of the meeting of representatives from the central bank and the IMF.

Arbuzov noted that the IMF representatives had praised Ukraine’s fulfillment of the conditions of the memorandum between Ukraine and the IMF.

“The issue of the NBU’s monetary policy was also considered. The IMF acknowledged that the National Bank of Ukraine has all the required instruments to work on the most important issues,” the NBU head said.
