Apartment rentals - a good alternative to Kyiv hotels

Apartment rentals - a good alternative to Kyiv hotels

Short-term apartment rentals continue be the accommodation of choice for guests to the Ukrainian capital, and for good reason. Hotels here tend to be either ridiculously expensive, or the service they offer is so bad, people figure they could do better if they just shopped around.

Now while Kyiv remains an expensive city in many respects - dining, the cost of flying in - these costs can be mitigated by arranging a night’s stay in a local apartment. When compared with hotel room rates of $150 per night and up, a fully serviced apartment for $50 to $100 per night looks a whole lot more attractive. The Post has therefore endeavored to provide its readers with the greatest number of options regarding short-term apartment rentals in Kyiv, namely those online. While our list is not all-inclusive, we’ve weeded out rental agencies that either lack Western sophistication, or that try to offer additional “adult” services.

Senator Apartments

Tel.: (8-044) 200-7755.

Using experience gained in Western Europe and Australia, Ruslan Oleksenko of Senator Apartments has created Kyiv’s first dedicated short-term rental apartment complex near the historic National Opera Theater, not far from the downtown.

As the city’s only dedicated apartment rental complex, Senator offers those looking to rent a range of options, from simple rooms to integrated office spaces with high-speed Internet access, and even multi-bedroom apartments for families or wealthier guests - all housed in a remodeled late 19th-century building. The all-in-one building also allows Senator to offer extended security measures and a variety of standard services, and it makes returning to rent with them easy, as the location never changes.

Senator apartments are tastefully decorated, with not a hint of Soviet design or any garish local furnishings. Rates range from $120-$140 per night for their smallest rooms to $280 and beyond for their most deluxe, multi-room accommodations. To stay with Senator, fill out the form on their easy-to-use Web site, which also helps make staying with them a snap.

Absolut

One of the easiest sites to use, the Absolut hotel service offers an amazing variety of apartments across Kyiv at various levels of comfort. While many lack somewhat in design, prices start from just $40 per day in the city center, and the Web site is easy to use and well laid out. A list of services is also provided.

Alserent

www.alserent.kiev.ua

Tel.: 491-6599, 8-039-200-1007.

Another company with an excellent, well-designed Web site and plenty of options for short-term guests to Kyiv, the Alserent apartment service offers places to stay in four different categories, ranging from one-room apartments with kitchenette for $50-$90 to two-room spots from just $60 and three-rooms for $90 and up. Each apartment description on the Web site includes distances to major tourist attractions and subway stations, as well as available appliances and more. A range of services, including guided tours and interpreters, is also provided.

Apartment Service

www.accommodation.kiev.ua

Tel.: 468-0757, 238-2223.

The Apartment Service Web site shows an impressive group of apartments varying in price from $40 for “standard” rooms to upwards of $70 for “deluxe” variants. One such “deluxe” apartment, near the city’s historic Bessarabsky Market, looks to be a real find for just $80 per night.

A useful aspect of the Apartment Service Web site is its link to car rental services, which are far cheaper than those of the major car rental firms currently operating in the city. Additionally, fees charged by Apartment Service for airport transfers and similar charges are among the lowest of all such agencies we considered.

Other useful apartment rental Web sites:
