It was founded as a Museum under Kiev organization of “Memorial” society. Ukraine is lucky. Programs of searching and immortalizing of victims of repressions are not closed here under the mask of cultivating “patriotic view on history”. Bolshevik regime was brought to Ukraine at the point of the bayonet and became a little milder only after being established by long-time violence in the last decades of its existence. But the crimes, convicted by the “violent fighters for worldly happiness” cannot be ignored. Actions of the Party and soviet Bodies, the punitive machine of the Bolsheviks, were a crime against Ukrainian people. They are documented thanks to laborious work of employees of the Museum.

The Museum was opened on November 30, 1991 in the building of Kiev city organization of Ukrainian “Memorial” society named after Vasyl Stus. On May 27, 2007 it was given a new name of “Soviet Occupation Museum”. Many people are shocked by the name, but once you visit this Museum, the opposite side of the truth is realized. There is nothing unnecessary and farfetched here – everything is based on documents.

Initially exposition “It is not liable to oblivion “is the central one n the Museum. It is the chronicle of the Soviet inquisition of 1917-1991. Later new expositions were included into the Museum: “Kiev Martyrology” (destroyed by communists architectural monuments of Kiev)”, “Ukrainian Solovki”, “Famine in Photo documents”. In 2010 another exposition of the Museum was founded – “The National War”, which was created to tell about Peasant – Cossack revolts in Ukraine in 1917 – 1932 – almost forgotten period of peasants` resistance to the Bolsheviks and about the crimes of the Emergency Committee of State Political Administration Association of that period.

There is a hall for 75 seats in the building which gives the opportunity to run open classes, lectures and demonstration of films on Soviet subject of the times of the communist rule. The video collection of the Society includes more than 80 full-length and short films. The exposition can be a unique source for running classes and lectures, for preparing and writing essays, yearly and graduate projects.
