Founded in 1051 by Prince Yaroslav the Wise and monks Anthony and Theodosius.Under the rule of Yaroslav the Wise, Kievan Rus reached the flowering and became one of the leading countries of Europe. He also built St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev Caves Monastery (future Pechersk Lavra).
