If you’ve got absolutely nothing to do when in Ukraine, you might want to go to the library. Or maybe you’ve come to visit Ukrainian libraries for a special research. Well, in case you need a real professional Ukrainian library, but not just to lend the newest Harry Potter, here’s the list.
1. Ukrainian National Vernadsky Library

The library founded in 1918. The total volume of the funds is about 15 million items. This is a unique storage of information including books, periodicals, maps, music, graphics, manuscripts, books printed before 18th century and documents on non-traditional bearers. This library can boast the most complete collection of Slavonic monuments and manuscript books. “The fund of Ukrainian Presidents”, archive copies of Ukrainian editions since 1917 and the fund of the National Academy of sciences of Ukraine are a part of its funds.
2. Ukrainian National Parliament Library

The Library was founded in 1866 with 19 books in 667 volumes and 43 sets of periodicals. Ruined by the Nazis during the WWII the fund was continuously restored to make up 4 million items in the present time. Books, periodicals, electronic editions, CD discs, author’s abstracts of scientific works in all the domains, personalized books collections, UNO and International Labor Organization documentation, manuscripts, music, maps. 0,5 million documents in 66 different languages, a collection of documents on art, architecture and design, foreign editions of Ukrainian authors, international reference books.
3. Lviv Scientific Stefanyk Library

Founded in 1940 Stefanyk Library is a powerful informational and research-and-development center with a corresponding official status. Rich in over 7 million items fund. The pride and beauty of the Library is a wide collection of Ukrainian and Foreign 19-20th century periodicals. A valuable part of the Library’s collection are unique books printed before 18th century, manuscripts, collections of maps, music, personalized libraries and archive collections of the outstanding writers, scientists, political and cultural personalities. A wide choice of social and political, natural history, language, literature and art scientific literaure, national and foreign history, ethnography, technical and other literature.
Well, my personal choice is Vernadsky library. They do have everything one might need, though you have to present heaps of documents to join.
