10 Must try of Ukrainian Cuisine

If it’s a true Ukrainian cuisine you are looking for, don’t accept any fakes in Moscow restaurants, go directly to Ukraine to try the following:

1. Borshch

a traditional Ukrainian soup prepared from red beet, cabbage and… whatever regional foodstuffs you can find in the fridge. It can be well-stuffed with pork meat and even fried pork fat (aka salo) or totally maigre depending on the region, time of the year and your cook’s mood. Served with or without cream, in pottery or inside a loaf of bread this masterpiece of Ukrainian cuisine will impress you afresh each time you try it.

2. Holubtsi

named after doves (goluby) this dish symbolizes creative power of flames. Made of meat stuffing wrapped in tender cabbage leaves, combining creativity and simplicity, holubtsi will differ from everything you tried before. No explanation will give you the idea about how that tastes, so just go and try it for yourself!

3. Pechenya

having once tried it freshly from the stove, steaming stewed potatoes, meat and some other vegetables in a clay pot, you’ll never forget this incredibly tender melting in your mouth. This was the promo for Ukrainian cuisine, I don’t always eat that with so much delight!
